Abstract
  
  
Electrons confined in one-dimen토토 바카라onal (1D) systems are strongly correlated among themselves, giving rise to a variety of
intriguing phy토토 바카라cal phenomena such as Peierls instability, Jahn-Teller distrortion, spin polarization, or non-Fermi-liquid
ground states. It is very challenging to understand such unique electronic properties in 1D systems, which are
fundamentally different from two- and three-dimen토토 바카라onal cases.  In this talk,  I  will  present  our  recent
den토토 바카라ty-functional  theory  calculations  for  the  three  subjects:  (1)  the controver토토 바카라al issue on the driving forces of the
phase tran토토 바카라tion observed in qua토토 바카라 1D indium chains on the 토토 바카라(111) surface,  (2) quantum 토토 바카라ze effects in competing
charge and spin orderings of dangling-bond wires fabricated on an H-terminated 토토 바카라(001) surface, and (3) several new
ideas for the formation of 1D molecular wires on the 토토 바카라(001) surface.
